Education

Across Lebanon, there are more than 500,000 school-aged children living as refugees in the country as a result of the war in Syria. According to Human Rights Watch more than 250,000 of these children are not attending school. While all children in Lebanon, including Syrian refugees, have a legal right to free primary education by international law, there are a number of  barriers preventing many of them from going to school.

Saadnayel Community Center

Our community center is located in Saadnayel, a small municipality that hosts 69 active informal refugee settlements. It is located in one of Lebanon’s municipalities with both a high density of refugees and of highly vulnerable Lebanese populations. The center is strategically located in an area surrounded by 10 informal settlements, all within a 15 minute walking distance.

Community

While the vast majority of humanitarian assistance in the region focuses on people’s basic needs, we believe that it is important for people to engage in activities that are not just about survival – activities where people can express themselves, share experiences, relax in a safe environment or simply have fun. While not always having direct developmental impacts, these projects can help people to feel human, start fresh dialogue and make connections across boundaries, strengthening civil society, improving social stability and providing more fertile ground for social cohesion.

Basic Assistance

Lebanon currently hosts approximately 1.5 million Syrian and Palestinian refugees. As well as this, more than 1 million Lebanese people live below the poverty line. Basic Assistance programs are crucial in providing immediate relief and support. Our initiatives focus on addressing urgent needs, enhancing health awareness, and ensuring that essential resources are delivered to those most in need. By responding swiftly and effectively, we strive to support communities facing these pressing difficulties. We conduct needs assessments regularly and work on the ground, meaning that we are able to cover gaps in provision that other NGOs cannot.
